Planning to fail? I hope not, however, did you know that if you fail to plan, the result is the same?
Planning takes planning. I know that’s a little redundant, but you have to plan on having a plan. If you just roll through life with no plan or direction, you’ll never know where you’ll end up. It’s like a 12 step program; The first step is always admitting that you have a problem and the next steps are how to fix it.
Planning means sitting down and thinking about where you are currently, where you want to be in a certain time frame, and deciding what it will take to get you there. Then planning continues with daily, weekly, and monthly activities that move you closer to your goal.
Planning got Tiger Woods to the top of the golf world. He started his plan when he was very young with the help of his career planner (his dad) and then every day did what it took to succeed with his plan. Could you imagine what his success level would have been if (a) he didn’t have a plan and/or (b) didn’t work his plan? He wouldn’t be the household name that he is today, would he?
Like Tiger, you may need a financial type planner to help you develop your plan. It could be as simple as starting a budget like this one. Or paying off debt, getting a college fund started for the children, etc… someone who can help you plan your work and then work your plan.
Planning on the unexpected events in life are most important. A serious illness, a debilitating accident, or unexpected death can derail even the best laid plans and that’s where insurance comes in. Whether life insurance, LTC, critical illness or a policy with all of these rolled up in one can ensure your plans will be met even if the unexpected happens. You can’t plan for every situation, but we can minimize the risk with properly planned insurance policies.
